Our GPs provide expert assessment of moles and skin lesions, giving you fast access to peace of mind and early detection. Appointments available to book today, or please do contact us to find out more.

Express Mole and Skin Check

Our Express Mole Check provides a fast, same-day GP-led assessment of concerning moles and skin lesions. Every appointment includes a professional dermatoscope examination, allowing detailed inspection of the lesion beneath the skin surface for greater diagnostic accuracy. You will receive an immediate clinical assessment, expert advice and a clear explanation of your findings.

No GP referral is required and same-day appointments are often available. If a lesion requires urgent investigation, an NHS Two-Week Wait referral can be arranged during your appointment at no extra cost. Where surgical removal is appropriate, patients have direct access to our Consultant Dermatologist and on-site day surgery facilities.

Express Mole Check and Skin Check FAQs

Who is the Express Mole Check for?

The Express Mole Check is ideal for anyone concerned about a changing mole, new skin growth, or unusual skin lesion. It is particularly recommended for moles that have changed in size, shape or colour, lesions that itch or bleed, and new growths appearing in adulthood.

It is also suitable for patients seeking annual skin cancer screening, those with significant sun exposure, or individuals with a family history of skin cancer. If you are unable to access a timely NHS appointment, a private mole check offers rapid reassurance and expert assessment.

What Are the Warning Signs for Moles?

The most important warning signs can be remembered using the ABCDE rule:

A – Asymmetry: One half differs from the other.
B – Border: Irregular or poorly defined edges.
C – Colour: Multiple colours or uneven pigmentation.
D – Diameter: Larger than 6mm.
E – Evolving: Changes in size, shape or colour.

Other symptoms include itching, bleeding, crusting, or a mole that looks noticeably different from others. Any changing mole should be assessed promptly by a healthcare professional.

What Are Skin Lesions?

A skin lesion is any area of skin that looks different from the surrounding skin. Common examples include moles, skin tags, cysts, age spots, warts, and seborrhoeic keratoses.

Most skin lesions are harmless, but some may require further assessment to rule out skin cancer or other skin conditions. A professional skin lesion check using dermoscopy can help determine whether a lesion is benign or requires specialist review.

What Are the Warning Signs for Skin Lesions?

You should seek assessment if a skin lesion changes in appearance, grows in size, develops irregular borders, changes colour, or becomes symptomatic.

Other warning signs include bleeding, itching, crusting, ulceration, tenderness, or a sore that does not heal. New skin lesions appearing in adulthood should also be examined, particularly if they continue to grow. Early assessment can help identify potentially serious conditions and provide reassurance when lesions are benign.

What Will Happen If Something Concerning Is Detected?

If your doctor identifies features that require further investigation, an NHS Two-Week Wait referral can be arranged immediately as part of your appointment. This fast-track pathway provides rapid access to specialist dermatology services. Caught early, skin cancers have an excellent success rate, but if left, they can develop into something much more serious.

Most moles and skin lesions are benign and require no treatment. However, if removal is recommended or preferred, patients can be referred to our consultant dermatologist for private surgical treatment at our on-site day surgery facility.

Why Haven Medical?

Haven Medical offers fast access to private mole checks and skin lesion assessments without the need for a GP referral. Our same-day appointments, doctor-led consultations, and professional dermatoscope examinations provide prompt and accurate assessment of concerning skin changes.

If urgent specialist review is needed, NHS Two-Week Wait referral is included. For patients requiring treatment, our consultant dermatologist and on-site day surgery facilities provide a seamless pathway from assessment to surgical removal. It’s expert skin care, all in one place.

I Have Multiple Moles - is This Test for Me?

If you have multiple moles, skin lesions or would like to discuss your concerns with a specialist in dermatology, you can book an appointment with our Consultant Dermatologist who can give you a full body review, identify any areas of concern and recommend next steps. Benefiting from an on-site day surgery unit, Dr Carolin Morgan can remove skin lesion and mole removal on site, sending samples away for further testing if needed.
