Private Otology (Ear Doctor)

Expert private otology and ear care in Poole and Bournemouth. Our experienced Consultant ear doctors provide thorough assessments and tailored treatment plans for a wide range of conditions affecting the ear — using advanced diagnostics and minimally invasive techniques, with transparent pricing and no hidden fees.

Ear conditions and treatment

Our specialist otologists are dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis and treatment of ear conditions, offering expert otology care at the highest level. Whether you are searching for a private ear doctor for a sudden concern or a long-standing condition, our team combines advanced diagnostics with the latest treatments to deliver precise, patient-focused care that gets to the root of your problem.

Hearing Loss

Hearing loss affects people of all ages and can develop gradually or suddenly. Whether caused by noise exposure, infection, ageing or a underlying condition, early assessment is key. Our specialist team offers comprehensive hearing evaluations to identify the cause and recommend the right treatment, from tailored hearing aids to surgical options, restoring clarity to your world.

Tinnitus

Tinnitus is the perception of sound — ringing, buzzing, hissing or roaring — with no external source. It can be constant or intermittent, mild or severely disruptive to daily life and sleep. Our specialists take time to understand your experience and identify any underlying cause, offering personalised management plans to help you regain control and find relief.

Perforated Eardrums

A perforated or burst eardrum can cause sudden pain, hearing loss and discharge, often triggered by infection, injury or pressure changes. While many heal naturally, some require specialist intervention. Our specialists will assess the extent of the perforation and guide you through the most appropriate treatment, whether that’s careful monitoring, patching or surgical repair to restore full hearing.

Cholesteatoma

Cholesteatoma is an abnormal skin growth in the middle ear that, left untreated, can cause progressive hearing loss and serious complications. It often develops from repeated ear infections or a retracted eardrum. Our otologists  will assess and diagnose the condition and recommend the appropriate surgical treatment to remove the growth and protect your long-term hearing health.

Meniere's Disease

Meniere’s disease is a chronic inner ear condition causing episodes of severe vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus and a feeling of fullness in the ear. Attacks can be sudden and debilitating, significantly impacting daily life. Our specialist team will work with you to identify triggers, manage symptoms and develop a personalised treatment plan to reduce the frequency and severity of episodes.

Ear Infections

Ear infections are one of the most common ear conditions, affecting both children and adults. They can cause pain, discharge, temporary hearing loss and a feeling of fullness in the ear. Our specialist team will identify whether the infection is in the outer or middle ear and recommend the most effective treatment, from medication to further investigation for recurrent cases.

Ear Wax Build Up & Removal

Earwax buildup can cause blocked ears, muffled hearing, discomfort and tinnitus. While common, it can be stubborn and difficult to resolve without professional help. Our specialists offer microsuction earwax removal — the safest and most effective method available — using gentle suction to carefully clear the ear canal quickly, comfortably and without the need for messy drops or irrigation.

Labyrinthitis

Labyrinthitis is an inner ear condition caused by inflammation, usually following a viral infection, that affects both balance and hearing. It can cause sudden and severe vertigo, nausea, tinnitus and temporary hearing loss. Our specialist team will assess your symptoms, identify the underlying cause and provide a tailored treatment plan to manage symptoms and support your recovery.

Otosclerosis

Otosclerosis is a condition where abnormal bone growth in the middle ear causes progressive hearing loss, often beginning in early adulthood. It can affect one or both ears and may also cause tinnitus. Our specialist team will assess your hearing and recommend the most appropriate treatment, whether that be hearing aids or a surgical procedure called a stapedectomy to restore hearing.

Acoustic Neuroma

An acoustic neuroma is a benign tumour that grows on the nerve connecting the inner ear to the brain, causing gradual hearing loss, tinnitus and balance problems. Early diagnosis is crucial for the best outcome. Our specialist team will arrange the appropriate investigations and work alongside neurosurgical colleagues to recommend the most suitable management plan for your individual case.

Vertigo & Balance Disorders

Vertigo and balance disorders can be frightening and debilitating, making everyday tasks difficult and affecting quality of life. Causes range from inner ear conditions like BPPV to nerve and brain-related issues. Our specialist team will carry out a thorough assessment to identify the root cause and provide a targeted treatment plan to restore your balance and confidence.

Otology FAQ's:

What is an otologist and how are they different from a regular ENT?

An otologist is a specialist who has completed additional training beyond a standard ENT qualification, focusing exclusively on conditions of the ear. While a general ENT treats a broad range of ear, nose and throat conditions, an otologist brings a deeper level of expertise specifically to ear disorders, making them the most appropriate choice for complex or persistent ear problems.

Do I need a GP referral to see a private ear specialist?

No. As a private patient you can refer yourself directly without needing to see your GP first. Simply contact us to book a consultation at a time that suits you. If you do have a referral letter or any previous test results, we encourage you to bring these along as they can be helpful during your assessment.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We understand that ear problems can be distressing and we aim to offer appointments as quickly as possible. In most cases we can see you within a few days. Please contact our team directly and we will do our best to accommodate your preferred date and time.

What should I expect at my first consultation?

Your first consultation will typically last around half an hour. Your specialist will take a detailed medical history, discuss your symptoms and carry out a thorough examination of your ears. Where necessary, additional tests such as a hearing assessment or endoscopic examination may be arranged. You will leave with a clear understanding of your condition and a personalised plan for next steps.
